N 50' AUTO BOX AT&SF
Item Number: MTL07800060
This 50’ auto box car with double side doors, end doors and wood roofwalk is painted ATSF Mineral Brown. It bears the 9’ Santa Fe billboard “Circle Cross” herald with large ‘Cooper Black’ “Santa Fe” font lettering. This car runs on black Bettendorf trucks. The double door FE-29 was first built by the Santa Fe Topeka Shops in 1952 and repainted at San Bernardino in December of 1972. In 1959, the 9’ billboard “Circle/cross” herald became the norm. “FE” was the Santa Fe class designation for furniture cars long after the original furniture cars had disappeared. This designation continued in use for automobile box cars; large cars with main and auxiliary side doors and/or full opening end doors for handling extra-large loads, furniture and auto parts.
